Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) Consultation

18th Nov 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am writing to gather your thoughts and views on an aspect of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.

Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) is a statutory aspect of the curriculum which must be delivered in school.  Many aspects of the RSE curriculum is already taught through our Religious Education Scheme called 'Grow in Love,' while other aspects are delivered through the Personal Development and Mutual Understanding (PDMU) Curriculum and our Pastoral Care practices.  However, some learning objectives must be delivered through the specific delivery of RSE lessons.

Please find attached the statutory curricular requirements of RSE.  These curricular requirements are what we as a school follow to deliver RSE.  They have been devised through consultation with the Catholic Schools' Trustee Service.  Please read through them carefully.

Our teaching staff have met and have explored various resources to assist in the delivery of RSE; and at all times will ensure that RSE delivery will be fulfilled in a sensitive and appropriate manner, in respect of the Catholic Ethos.

As a self evaluating school, we want to review your thoughts and feelings surrounding the delivery of RSE.  This will inform future planning.  The development of RSE is an important feature of our School Development Plan for 2022-23.  Please complete the questionnaire attached.  this will close on Friday 25th November at 2pm.  Thank you for your responses.

Please note that Parent/Guardian permission must be granted before the delivery of any RSE specific lessons.  You will receive more information regarding this in due course.

Kindest Regards,

Mrs S. McCafferty
