In this Primary 2 art lesson with Mrs Donnelly, the children explored and experimented with texture through collage while creating their own sea creatures.
They were introduced to a variety of materials such as tissue paper, foil, fabric, and corrugated card, encouraging them to think about how different surfaces feel and look. The pupils showed great curiosity and creativity as they selected and combined materials to represent scales, fins, and underwater features. They used cutting, tearing, layering, and sticking techniques to build texture and depth in their work. The class engaged enthusiastically in discussions about their designs, demonstrating an understanding of how texture can enhance visual interest.
The finished sea creatures were imaginative and colourful, reflecting each child’s individual ideas and growing confidence in using mixed media. Well done everyone!
